RMSL Season Update

Hello RMSL members, we hope that you are all staying healthy during this challenging time

The Regina Minor Softball Board of Directors have been meeting and will continue to meet on a regular basis to determine how to best navigate through this unprecedented situation.
There are three key messages that we want to deliver.

1. We have every intention of having a softball season in 2020. We know how much the players and coaches want to play, practice, compete and participate in team activities. We are working diligently to do what is in our control to make sure this season happens.

2. The health and safety of our players is paramount. RMSL has postponed all softball sanctioned activities as we fall under the umbrella of Softball Saskatchewan. This includes all events - practices and team functions of any kind. We are paying close attention to all Municipal, Provincial and National COVID-19 updates and when we receive communication that it is safe to proceed with any softball activities we will communicate immediately and proceed with our season plan.

3. When we can move forward with the season, you can expect that we will proceed differently than normal years. For this, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we are doing our best to have a season and some or most of our typical processes and events will not be possible.

Season Start
We are basically in a "week by week" pattern and are making plans for the season as we get updates from our governing bodies. We will continue to adjust the plans for later start dates as needed. If our season is condensed, we will investigate options for increased games per week or possibly fewer overall games played.
Many teams have been formed and the rest will be completed over the next two weeks so that we can be ready to go when we are allowed.

Regina Tournaments, Playoffs and Provincials.

We are looking into options for running our RMSL hosted tournaments but in a condensed season there may not be time. The 2020 Season Kickoff and Erna Wicks tournament have been cancelled. The Sharon Knott and Queen City Classic will stay scheduled as is for now until we get further updates from the City of Regina and Softball Saskatchewan. Softball Saskatchewan will be the ones to decide if Provincial Championships will be held. 

In a shortened season, there may not be time for our league playoffs as we may be required to move directly from league play into provincials if they are played. This will be determined at a later date and depend on our eventual start date and our scheduling parameters. Again, nothing has been officially decided.

The next few weeks will provide us with more answers as we plan for the upcoming season. The RMSL thanks you for your patience and understanding as we attempt to make the best decisions possible, with the information we have, in a very challenging time. With your support, we are confident 2020 will be a great season.
